Impact on sexual function
Herba Epimedii has the effect of promoting semen secretion, which is due to the hyperactivity of semen secretion and the stimulation of sensory nerve after the seminal vesicle is filled. The flowing extract made of Epimedium or Epimedium from Japan can not show tail lifting reaction to dogs, but it can promote semen secretion. Its leaves and roots play the strongest role, followed by fruits, and the weakest stem; prostate and seminal vesicle are the most important The method of increasing the weight of levator ani muscle (mice) showed that the extract of Epimedium had androgen like effect, which was weaker than Cnidium monnieri, but stronger than that of E.coli and hippocampus. Injection of 20-40 mg of its extract was equivalent to 7.5 μ g of testosterone. It has been proved that there is no effect of estrogen on the mating rate of rats, the ovulation cycle and the excretion of female hormones in the urine of rabbits. The results of hot and cold water extracts are the same. The ethanol extract of Epimedium from Japan had no effect on the sexual cycle of normal and ovariectomized female mice, and did not increase the weight of uterus and ovary.
Effects on microorganisms
Epimedium decoction has a significant inhibitory effect on poliovirus in vitro. Within 1 hour of drug contact with virus, it can also inhibit other enteroviruses; it has significant antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus albus and Staphylococcus aureus; it has slight inhibitory effect on catarrhalis nescens, pneumococcus and Haemophilus influenzae. The results showed that 1% concentration had antibacterial effect on human Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Antitussive, expectorant and antiasthmatic effects
Among the various preparations of epimedium, the fresh extract C from stems and leaves and the compound No. II of Epimedium (Epimedium: Eucalyptus Leaf: Flos chrysanthus = 8:2:1) had certain expectorant effect (phenol red method in mice), and ethyl acetate extract was preliminarily considered to have antitussive effect (method of cough in mice caused by SO2), but the antiasthmatic effect on bronchial asthma in guinea pigs was not ideal.
Other functions
Epimedium extract has antihypertensive effect on rabbits. A small amount of Epimedium can increase urine secretion, but a large amount can inhibit it. It has inhibitory effect on isolated rabbit intestine. Isolated uterus is excited first and then inhibited. Oral administration of Epimedium can decrease blood glucose of hyperglycemic rats. Epimedium contains vitamin E (chicken identification method).
